They don't hire people that can actually manage. They hire former players.
You may be a hell of a player and can't manager worth a crap. You can be an average player and be a heck of a manager. You can be a great Manager and never played in the MLB at all. Although we will never find out.
Baseball is probably the easiest game to manage out of all the sports.
