So moron closet nazi Matt Walsh says Nolan wrecked the story by “telling it in a non-linear fashion.” Tell us you’re an idiot who never read the Odyssey without saying you an idiot who never read the Odyssey.
NRO had a circle jerk of neocon nimrods complaining that Odysseus was ruined because he was not just a reboot of Leonides from 300, a paper thin character who fit that comic book of a movie. But the Iliad *had* its own Spartan King, he was the arrogant, brutish, powerful guileless jerk who got the Achaeans into the long disastrous war. Homer describes Odysseus as “sly, artful, crafty” not rage roided brutish thug. The whole point of his character is that he thinks things through and triumphs by guile and intelligence, rather than brute force.
The final critique is that it isn’t “historically accurate”. This of course is just more shorthand for Not White Enough. The Odyssey is NOT a history. It is a collection of tales that was passed around orally by bards or poets for centuries before taken down. What does “historically accurate” mean when we’re talking about Gods reaching down to punish humans, One-eyed giants placing curses on a protagonist, or a witch turning men into pigs?
