And that is not a bad thing for us even in the short term. He's 54 years old and has only called played for three seasons: two with Colorado when they won only 4 games in seasons under Jon Embree; and last season with the Commanders. He has a lot to prove and will be motivated. He'll be empowered to run his offense, but it will remain to be seen how this offense will look with the talent he is inheriting.

Patrick Mahomes isn't walking through that door, and I hope he learned that after last season with the Commanders.
Criticisms included relying on Sam Howell to throw too much and abandoning the running game. Howell led the NFL in pass attempts and was also sacked the most. Another criticism, which can be attributed to the sacks, was the "big-play offense" play calling that relied on deeper routes that take time to develop. If you don't have a good enough o-line, a qb taking a 7-step drop will get sacked. Hopefully he'll learn to make adjustments to screens, slants and check downs when those big plays take too long to develop.
