Maybe not a great hire, but....

I am hoping he will bring some energy into the program that was sorely lacking under Chip. Chip seemed to be almost comatose in a lot of his interviews. That being said, DeShaun seems rather soft spoken from what I have seen, but the kids respond to him so I will hold judgement for now.

The recruiting could not get any worse. Chip left UCLA with the gift of the 92nd ranked recruiting class. I am sure DeShaun will make an effort to recruit which a big step up from Chip.

Some believe this could be a poor career move for DeShaun. Possibly, but depending on the contract (assuming about $4 million a year) he could make more in a couple of years than most people make in their lifetime.

I understand the sentiment on the board. People here have battered Bruin syndrome. They are tired of the poor/uninspired HC choices and I don't blame them. We all feel like Charlie Brown when Lucy pulls the ball away at the last second. What made Chip so disappointing was that most of thought the UCLA admin finally got it right. It turned out Chip seemed to be here to collect a large paycheck and little else.

All of this being said I will give DeShaun a chance. It is either that or give up on UCLA football altogether. I guess I am just a glutton for punishment.
