the calendar is unmanageable. Recruiting and re-recruiting falls right into coaching bowl season and there's just no break during and around the academic year. The lack of definition of NIL. Hard to find an interview of a HC without hearing "it's the Wild West out there" - a lot. It never stops and each program has to be managed - a full time job - as well as the actual coaching.
The minimal active coaches with NCs comes with one retirement (and of course the long-anticipated move of Harbaugh). The state of disarray in pay for play (masquerading as NIL) is going to keep the number of candidates actually in the running to join that list very small until something is finally done to manage the whole thing
