Several people have commented on the idea of giving a player enough NIL money that they are willing to be a walkon. It would allow programs to get over the 13-player scholarship limit.
It certainly seems like this could happen. I see the problem is that higher-level players may balk at being on a roster that big.
I think you can get players who are willing to be the 14th player at Duke, rather than a starter at Belmont and they provide better practice players and insurance against lots of injuries.
However, I think the fact that there are only 200 minutes of playing time in a game makes for a natural limit to the number of high-level players you can get on a team.
I think this may be more useful in football to go beyond the roster limits. There are so many injuries, that roster depth becomes a really important factor. Alabama and Georgia and Ohio State will stockpile even more elite talent.
