I don't know who Chris Long is. I'm assuming he's a sports commentator. And, I'm not sure what he's saying here, but I can see positives on both sides of this issue as well as negatives.
I like it when a team plays together for multiple years. I like what happens to the team and their play when they have years together. I like getting familiar with players over the years. As an ex coach I see the benefits of having players over a period of time and how new players are folded into the system. I believe the quality of play overall is enhanced when teams are comprised of various levels of experience and many years of developing together.
On the other hand, I never liked that players in college were basically exploited. And like the reserve clause in professional sports, the athlete was more of a prisoner to the team or in this case to the school's athletic program. I like that now college players are treated more financially equitable than before and have freedom of movement and the ability to negotiate salary like the coaches always have had.
I fear that now college sports is in an unstable situation and it may get worse. I don't think that can be good for college sports and I hope that smarter people can somehow stabilize what to me looks like a situation on the brink of chaos. Maybe that's what Chris Long meant?
