Thompson strikes me as a risky candidate. We don't know the dirt on him yet. He hasn't been scrutinized and attacked yet. His opinions and track record haven't been dissected by his opponents and the media yet. He could rush to great primary victories and win the nomination and then suddenly fall in favor - ala Howard Dean last cycle but a few months later in the cycle. If that happens, the Republicans are toast - being committed to a Presidential candidate who has no hope of winning - and it's bad for the country to have a candidate regardless of party become a shoo-in just because the candidate they are running against is unelectable.
