(You know I like 3's).
From a dem point of view, I would have to honestly say that I fear Thompson the most (in regard to getting a dem in the white house). There are several reasons for my thinking there.
1. None of the other candidates seem to be gaining too much momentum, nor are they highly electable, IMO. By virtue of Thompson's late entrance, he has a shot to stand alone in a spotlight for a while, and possibly make a mark.
2. The other candidates all seem to have baggage that he doesn't carry (at least yet). I don't consider the "lazy" thing to have wheels, and he plays the role well. Whether there's substance there is another issue, but when did that ever get in the way of an American voter.
3. Clearly (at least IMO), the Arnold governorship shows us that an actor with little credentials but a visible career and following can succeed, if he doesn't shoot himself in the foot. If he just watches enough tapes of Reagan, and limits his pre-election comments to one-liner words of wisdom, I think he will appeal to many in this country, for right or wrong.
We'll know much more in a couple of weeks.
