Even if Savage doesn't work out, his resume merits the job.
He has a history of being a good recruiter who has developed elite MLB pitchers. The thinking behind his hire is absolutely solid where as the hires of Toledo, Donnahue and Lavin didn't make sense.
I don't need my GM to be a soothsayer, only to be a guy who makes decisions that make sense.
Hiring of KD made no sense save politics.
Hiring of Howland and Savage make sense whether they work out or not.
