In the April 7 Daily Bruin (UCLA's student newspaper), Bruins assistant coach Brian Rofer indirectly accused the Cougars of cheating with their players.
"It's unfortunate for the athletes to see a blatant disregard for the rules when we're supposed to be educating them," Rofer said. "It's just sad, especially for a religious school. It's just not right."
Today, the NCAA ruled BYU and it's players are fully eligible dealing a huge blow to Rofer, Scates and the Bruin Volleyball team. After Roper's comments, UCLA fans jeered and hurled anti-Mormon epithets at BYU players during a recent two-game match at Pauley Pavilion.
Will Rofer and Scates show the tiniest bit of class and offer a public apology to BYU and to BYU players Victor Batista and Joe Hillman? What about the Daily Bruin?
I've always considered UCLA a classy institution, but condoning religious bigotry is pretty shameful and classless.
