The NCAA dealt a blow to UCSB coach Ken Preston and UCLA coach Al Scates by ruling BYU player Victor Batista is fully eligible to compete in the upcoming MPSF tournament.
Bruin fans jeered BYU relentlessly during their recent two game match at Pauley Pavilion. Scates has been a vocal opponent of foreign athletes competing in the NCAA as he has seen his competitive advantage disappear to the likes of Hawaii and Lewis, the last two NCAA champions, and to BYU.
