It's the top of the seventh in a World Series game. The entire
play takes about 3 seconds. Players are acting and reacting on instinct.
Does the catcher know exactly where the alleged six square inches
are that she's supposed to allow the runner?
The announcers didn't like the rule (either). Imagine if that had been
the bottom of the seventh and the winning run rather than the tying run.
The Bruins avoided the Losers' Bracket, which is perfectly named.
Pitchers will be exhausted, even if their team advances and,
possibly, suffer that consquence down the road.
The outcome (Bruins vs. Ducks) became historic in a memorable way,
and wouldn't have if the Ducks' coach hadn't quacked in the top
of the seventh.
"Just put it on my bill," the Duck said to the bartender.
