Across the board, every single team scored the lowest on the uneven bars. Utah took themselves out of contention in the very first rotation, with a 9.050 AND a 9.275 on bars. In the 2nd rotation, Florida fell to the wayside with a 9.200 and a 9.700 on bars, scoring only a total of 48.800 on that event. Alabama only scored a 49.050 on bars in the 3rd rotation. We went 4th on bars, and had two scores of 9.800 in scoring 49.425. We scored better than a 49.500 in every other event. Georgia, which had been neck and neck with us after 4 rotations, lost it in the 5th rotation on bars, with a 9.175 and a 9.775 to score a 49.125 in that event.
By the time the 5th rotation ended, UCLA had already clinched the meet with a 198.125. Utah had also finished by then, with a 195.775. Georgia was the next closest, with a 148.000.
On bars, the highest two scores both went to Bruins: Jamie Dantzscher with a 9.950 and Kristen Maloney with a 9.925. Jeanette Antolin, along with 4 others, scored a 9.900.
On vault, Jeanette Antolin got the highest score, with a 9.975. She really looked like she deserved a 10 on that event, and had it been the regular season, that would have received a 10. But the judges just weren't going to give any perfect 10s tonight, not at the championships. Kristen Maloney tied with 3 others for the 2nd best score at 9.950.
On the balance beam, two Bruins tied for the highest score at 9.950, Antolin and Kate Richardson. Kristen Maloney had a 9.925 with two others, and Yvonne Tousek had a 9.900 for good measure.
On floor, Kate Richardson tied with two others for the highest score with a 9.950. Kristen Maloney had a 9.925, and a slew of gymnasts received 9.900 scores, including UCLA's Tousek, Dantzscher, and Antolin.
In the all-around, Jeanette Antolin and Kristen Maloney both had the highest score of the night at 39.725. Alabama's Jeana Rice was 3rd with a 39.650, and Kate Richardson had the 4th best score of the night with a 39.600.
CBS will broadcast the NCAA Championships on May 1st at 10am.
