UCLA 6-3, behind Cole's pitching and Vanderhook's offense

Same formula that UCLA followed in game 1--stifle the opposition's offense with strong pitching and solid fielding, and hit and run 'em out of the park--was executed well in game 2, with the same results, a Bruin W.

Kudos to Gerrit Cole for his performance, but let's give some credit to the mastermind of the Bruin offense, Rick Vanderhook, assistant coach. After 21 years on the staff at Cal State Fullerton, during which the Titans made 6 CWS appearances, Rick was not chosen to replace coach George Horton, who left for Oregon. Rick decided to move on, and John Savage was quick to offer him a spot on the UCLA staff. Rick's aggressive style of play has been embraced by the team, and the results are now on display at the CWS. The Bruins are pressuring the opposition non-stop, hitting and running them ragged, wearing them down, rolling over them.

Way to go, Rick, Gerrit and the rest of the 2010 team!
