The Bruins got off to a rough start last week, suffering a 16-4 trouncing by the visiting Dirtbags of Long Beach State. Two wins, 6-3 and 6-2, at Arizona followed, and a 6-4 loss concluded the week. UCLA's record is 29-7, 7-5 Pac-10. The team is alone in 3rd place, behind Stanford and Arizona State. Nationally, the Bruins are ranked 5th by Baseball America.
UCLA is out-hitting opponents with a .313 batting avg. to .213 and out-pitching them with a 2.80 ERA to 5.96. In spite of the outstanding year the Bruins are having, home attendance is averaging only 898. Away, the Bruins are a good draw, averaging 2,834.
Trevor Bauer's cap, frayed and faded as it is, still stands a good chance of making it to Omaha this year, along with its owner and his Bruin teammates.
