. . . mostly about the ambiance of Jackie Robinson Stadium ("burger smoke . . . primal and evocative . . . amid a eucalyptus grove, sea breezes sneaking up your shirt"), but also some kind words about UCLA's record-braking performance so far this season. Over 1500 were on hand to watch the Bruins on Tuesday. Too bad the one-game win streak had to come to an end (the Titans of Cal State Fullerton prevailed, 6-1), but I did warn you to "get used to it." The competition is tough from here on out.

The 23-2 Bruins take on the Beavers of Oregon State (19-6) this weekend in Corvallis. I'll be in the crowd, which should be around 2500, to watch the games. I predict that UCLA will take the series, 2 games to 1, but it could just as easily go the other way.
