I'm shocked! Shocked, I say!

Not really. I expected UCLA (22-1, 1-1) to lose a few in Pac-10 play. Yesterday's 8-4 win by Stanford (13-8, 3-2) propels them past the Bruins into 2nd place in the conference. Stanford scored seven runs in the fifth, six unearned. Even the best teams have an inning like that once in awhile. The season is young. I'm still confident that the Bruins will be playing ball in Omaha this June.

Elsewhere in the Pac-10, Arizona State (24-1, 4-1) lost to Oregon (19-9, 2-3), bringing the Sun Devil win streak to an end, and Oregon State (17-6, 1-1) lost at USC (14-13, 2-3). The Tree, Trojans, and Ducks will be pesky, but I doubt if they will contend for the conference title. I think the battle will be between ASU, UCLA, and Arizona. But anything can happen in baseball, and there's a lot of talent in the Pac-10 this year.

By the way, don't bother checking the Pac-10 website for conference standings. Something has gone terribly wrong with their stats.
