Ouch! After a stellar 8-inning performance by Bruin RHP Gerrit Cole, who struck out 11 and limited the Bears to two hits and one run, he exited stage right and things fell apart in the ninth. Cal scored twice, and then UCLA was only able to get one run home after loading the bases with NO OUTS.

The Bruins are back to .500 overall and four games under .500 in the conference, slipping from second to fourth, replaced by Oregon State, which defeated Washington in Seattle's big-league Safeco Field.

Meanwhile, the Bruin softball team won the conference for the umteenth time, so there's at least one blue and gold representative on its way to post-season play!
