Actually, I believe Kuroda is just about ready. Schmidt has thrown 94 pitches in a "spring training game."
If these two can come back, and Schmidt is anywhere near his Cy Young form, I'd say we won't have a bad rotation at all. Especially if it works out that Wolf is only the fifth starter: Billingsley, Kuroda, Kershaw, Schmidt, Wolf.
Kershaw has been either very, very good (3 games, though he doesn't get credit for any wins yet) or very, very bad. (2 games) One of those bad ones was in Colorado. So hopefully he'll settle on being very, very good much more often.
The big problem in pitching right now is our middle relief cannot hold the lead. Hopefully Wade and Kuo can get healthy again. Kuo's problem may be mostly mental. He just has to go out there and do what he has to do. If he throws his elbow out again, so be it. But he isn't doing any good babying it.
With all that pre-season publicity about Martin being a new man -- maybe we ought to find the old (vintage 07) Martin again?
