It isn't the closer so much. (Even though Broxton blew his first save tonight. Not only did he issue two walks to triple his season output, he had more balls and strikes overall.) It is the lack of a set-up man to fill Broxton's role.

I had hoped it could be Kuo. But even before his injury, he had two bad outings in a row. That's the thing, all the potential candidates, including Wade and Kuo, had been inconsistent, looking like world beaters one night and horrible the next. That's the team's greatest need right now -- a reliable setup man. That, and for Martin and Furcal to start producing.

How many games did we lose last year leading after seven? As you pointed out, we have lost two already. And we came back to win some (like tonight) after letting the opponent catch up. That's more due to the hitting than the pitching.

P.S. It's "EI" (extra innings) and not OT in baseball lingo. :-)
