I had been disheartened as to the directions Evangelicals had been moving since my Southern Baptist Pastor during Bush W's first term for the first time mentioned politics in the pulpit that this was a one-issue election (abortion).

I wondered where the following sermons owning the tortures at Guantanamo or the death of civilians in Iraq? If you are going to ordain this message from the pulpit then you have to own the entire record.

Tim Albera is a best-selling Washington Reporter/author who is an Evangelical Pastor's kid and a current Evangelical.

His latest book is "The Kingdom, the Power, and the Glory: American Evangelicals in an Age of Extremism."

He goes through the Evangelical world interviewing prominent Evangelicals, pastors who did not support Trump, pastors who did, Evangelicals who switched churches because of support/silence on Trump on the pulpit, etc. Everyone from Adam Kinzinger who was on the Jan 6 committee to Roger Moore who was pushed out of the Southern Baptist Convention. It goes through the history of institutions like Liberty University, Moral Majority, or the Christian Coalition interviewing founding member's thoughts on the arch and impact of these Evangelical institutions.

There have been small articles that have looked at this issue but nothing as comprehensive of a reporting piece. I'm almost finished with it but it was heartening to have someone challenge those who are some of the worst abusers with some heartfelt difficult questions and highlight the consequences of shying away from politics in the pulpit in this moment in history.
