I remember during the Apartheid protests students striked against classes, held protests and sit-ins.
They built a shanty town in the quad where the protesters would leave. They said they absolutely would not stop until UCLA divested from South Africa.
The students were willing to give up going to class, studying, living in dorms, etc. The only thing where were not able to give up was spring break. During spring break, everyone left to have a good time and the administration took apart the shanty town.
