I am not sure what your post was in reference to, but the following thought just occurred to me:

The fertilized egg is often seen as the triumph of the sperm. As long as the woman carries pregnancy, that's the trophy of the man who can point at her and go "I put that there".

Then when the baby is born, the bond between the mother and the baby overrides the father's glory. At that point they stop caring about the baby's well-being and dump the whole responsibility on the woman. That's when they stop caring about whether the baby lives or dies, whether they survive a school shooter, has good nutrition, or has access to healthcare.

So there you have it ... the conservative position on the value of babies, where they start and where they end.
