Because the internal GOP polling told them what was going to happen if they didn't. Young hispanic voters are turning out in record numbers in Texas, well exceeding 2024 and unlike 2024 when Trump did well with Hispanics, the polling suggests these people are voting blue. Texas is already close to 3 million in early voting, record numbers. And that's with them slow walking registrations for new voters and closing nearly 100 voting locations in targeted locations to make it harder for people to vote.
Tom Bonier who does voting data stuff for Dem orgs says the data shows essentially 800K Hispanics have voted already in Texas which is about 15% more than had voted at this point in 2024, and that was a Presidential election not a midterm.
The real question is how effective was Texas with the suppression because if it wasn't effective the GOP is in real trouble. Remember Texas redistricted with the plan that took solid red districts and carved them up to make blue districts red. the problem is the solid red districts they carved up have lots of HIspanics in them they were counting on staying red and the polling says they are NOT staying red.
There was a story about 10 days ago that said in addition to claiming fraud one of Trumps plans if they lose is to blame the loss on redistricting, that is the guy who told Texas to get him more seats, is planning on blaming Texas and other states for doing what he said and redistricting which so clearly pissed people off.
Meanwhile it's early but posting says the redistricting in California did exactly what they intended it to do.
Grain of salt as always but at least so far it appears the GOP didn't really benefit and may have actually pissed off voters by doing it so much it backfired
