I don't think he was ever hard MAGA. It seems like he would have been at one time more of a Bush Republican who has been alienated.
Denying him the benefit of the doubt, his remarks don't feel remotely spontaneous. And the camouflage and "tactical" sunglasses feel like cosplay. Is that what anyone would really wear to stroll around the national mall?
