A Real ID isn't always enough on its own for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) because it shows legal status at issuance, not current, valid status, and ICE agents sometimes disregard them, even for citizens; a U.S. Passport or Passport Card is better proof of citizenship, while lawful immigrants must carry their immigration documents (like green cards/visas) alongside their state ID.
