I think the absence of any regular way to create the demonym forces people to use these long phrases like "people living in Minneapolis" etc when it's not one of the more common ones, like New Yorkers, Angelinos, Philadelphians, Seattleites...
I just looked up: it's Dallasites and New Orleanians (never heard either).
Is it too much to ask for a regular rule that goes like "if it ends with a vowel, it's X; if it ends with a nasal, it's Y; otherwise, it's Z" so that you can tell without knowing? (A linguist's pet peeve.)
