The problem with SpaceX is that Boeing was not able to be competitive to SpaceX to prevent Musk from having political pull due to mismanagement.
That being said, SpaceX is the only way to cost-effectively get things into space. The government has subsidized industries to maintain build/maintain economic edge, whether it is railroads, the internet, or space. Both Biden and Trump gave tens of billions in subsidies for chips.
None of the big companies pays any taxes.
This is fortunately or unfortunately, how business is done in the US.
