Imo, one of the bad things about the dynamics is that:
Peaceful protesters come out. That triggers opportunistic looters to come out.
The Peaceful protesters are muuuuuuuuch easier for the police to manage than looters.
So, everyone's anger goes sky high seeing the looting.
The police won't do anything about the looting - just stand there and watch.
And, societal anger about the looting gets taken out on the protesters.
I wish 1) people would stop conflating looting with protesting 2) the cops would grow some balls and a) deal with the looters b) not treat peaceful protesters like looters.
