As Jon Stewart said, if this was a cover up, it was a terrible one because there it was well rumored in medias and politics. It's why Stewart came out so early on needing a new candidate.
This is nothing new. JFK's people hid his pain med addiction. The guy was high during the Cuban missile crisis. Regan's dementia was hidden also.
The difference in all of these cases was that Biden's people were encouraging him to run again, going so far has to hide polling data.
Every administration has to protect the person in charge until they decide to step down. You don't however ask someone with dementia to run again, especially in the face of Trump.
