If he hadn't been winning, and buying rounds for the beat writers over at Julie's, he may not have been considered such a "wit". As the saying goes, he did not suffer fools well.
Hey I loved the guy as a coach, but nowdays the press is so in love with it's power that any coach treds lightly.
Rick has seen what a negatvie attitude about a coach among the press can do (see Washington) and plays them very well. Kiffin is that much younger and inexperienced with the "game".
