A kid can commit without a coach evern knowing about it.

All he has to do is say, "I'm committed to play for USC." Here's a clue about commits, and this is for any sport. The ONLY people that ever announce commits it are the player, his parents or the kid's club coach.

The college coach can NOT comment on a commit one way or another or it would be an NCAA violation. They can only discuss them after they've signed a Letter of Intent.

For all we know this kid has never talked to Kiffin.
