I got the impression that after Fields' parents intervened with the Athletic Department, Brown soured on UCLA because he was forced to take back Fields by the administration. I got the impression that after he was forced to reinstate Fields, that Brown would leave because he was undermined by the AD or whomever took the Fields' family side. No coach would stay under those circumstances.
Perhaps someone remembers the Field Incident better than I and can shed some more light on this topic.
