That sounds like a good consolation.
Went to the Sun Bowl with my dad a couple of months after my mom passed after a 2 year battle with cancer.
We went to the game at Alabama, too. I was kinda bummed we didn't make the gathering in Birmingham. But, it worked out awesomely. He was pretty much an orphan (mom died, dad bailed). So, he was passed around among his aunts while growing up. We visited one of his aunt's that had taken him in (there were several, when I say he got passed around, I'm not joking), in Meridian MS before the game. Had a wonderful visit. And, got together with other family members who I wasn't sure how they were related. Had a really nice time with them, too. Definitely better than the pre-game in B-ham. Made it in time to hit Dreamland in Tusc before the game, listened to a good blues band (not a fakey one) in the rain, eating bbq. And, of course, the game.
He started dating shortly thereafter. That was the last football trip we did. A short run on the football trips, but a good one.
