This is a different team, with a ton of different players, a different coaching staff, and a different schedule.
Teams don't walk up a ladder by gaining two more wins every year. The top coaches hit it hard and fast. That was true before the portal, and it's even more true now.
5-7 would have meant a bad recruiting class, more media trashing of UCLA, and Chesney being labeled a bust, pretty much the opposite of success. I don't understand why you would think we would go 5-7, then 7-5, and then 9-3. You can't recruit off of 5-7.
