From the 60's to the early 90's we were one of the schools who benefited the most from the CFA contract - TV execs were based in LA, and put UCLA/USC on a LOT more than other schools - as such we had the additional recruiting advantage of being on TV more than other, while also getting more money.

When the CFA contract blew up in the early 90s, that advantage started dwindling, and UCLA mgmt was very slow to react to the changes.

When the Pac12 went to equal shares, that also hurt us.
