was the NFL would "own" the profits of college football (since it is all professional anyway) and thus they would be incentivized to create maximum viewing, which would turn those dull 4-12 team matchups into rivetting viewing for relegation purposes. So the owners might be willing to risk their billion dollar business for greater profits.
In the end, everyone concluded that short of government interference, it would never happen.
