That's the amount of money they earned from the CFP last season. They didn't have to split it with anyone. If they were in a conference, the money would go to the conference, which would divide it among the members.
Then there is this: "Notre Dame currently earns about $22 million per year from its NBC football broadcasting deal, but reports indicate the new extension through 2029 is expected to rise to around $50 million annually."
