3 weeks ago, I had a great sports weekend:
The Mariners swept the Astros, making them the favorites to win the Division. The Dodgers won 3 out of 4 against the Giants. The Seahawks crushed the Saints in a laugher that was over after the 1st quarter. My cricket team crushed their biggest rival. Even my Premier League team pulled off an improbable victory.
At the time I couldn't help but think that this was all enabled by the fact that the Bruins had the week off because I couldn't imagine a way in which the Bruins could play and not ruin my weekend for me.
Fast forward to this weekend: Mariners won a 15-inning thriller to advance to the ALCS and then, against all odds, won 2 away games against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Dodgers also stole one against the Brewers on the road. The Seahawks won. But what made all of this sweetest was the fact that UCLA crushed Michigan State.
