Lavin was woefully underprepared and was one step above water boy who inherited a highly talented team 1 year removed from a Natty. He was fortunate that prior assistants above him left for other jobs moving him up in seniority. He never played for UCLA and didn’t play big time college hoops.

Jerry has been a position coach for several successful head coaches, notably Kelly, and played for UCLA, and has been instrumental in the big turnaround.

Agrees that we should let the season unfold but this is a great audition for all of them. There’s no rush to hire anyone at this point in the season and 2+ months of football/drama to play out. There is a good reason no players entered the portal after Foster was let go. The current staff gets credit for keeping the team intact rather than a completely lost season and exodus of talent.

If ucla passes on Jerry, he’ll be a top candidate for many programs as and OC or HC and we may regret losing him.
