I don't think it's realistic for UCLA. The best coaches usually have some serious chops in the X's and O's department, and many lean heavily into one side of the ball.

Dorrell tried to be the CEO. I still don't know exactly what it was that he did. Neuheisel tried to be the CEO and turn the X's and O's over to Chow and Walker. Then he brought in the Pistol specialist (Mastro?), even though RN himself had no experience with the Pistol. Mora tried to be the CEO but it ended up a jumbled mess, as he failed to really develop any coherent identity for the program. Other than motivate and recruit, it was hard to discern what Mora's stamp on the program actually was.

Chip definitely neglected the D early in his tenure, but Chip neglected a lot of things. That was just Chip.

I don't think it's at all true that a coach who leans into one side of the ball invariably neglects the other. I'd like a coach who at least has one side of the ball mastered.
