last season we certainly improved - although that was a low bar. Don't see how we could be any worse. But a 5 star QB would cost us $2 million or more and, if you can't protect him or create a decent run game to keep defenses honest or stop or even slow the other team's running attack or pressure their QB you can have a 5 star QB and a 5 star RB and a 5 star WR all you want, but you're still going to get the QB killed and insure that the other two 5 stars transfer out after one season and you're still going to lose more games than you win and anyone you attracted to the stadium by that buzz you created in the off-season won't return again and your program will continue to suck.
You can argue that you can build your lines over the course of a few years by recruiting 3 stars with potential and coaching them up (and keeping the same lines intact for multiple seasons) . That does take multiple years of waiting.and those big shiny objects - like 5 star QBs - are really hard to resist. But in this thought puzzle approach we should also wonder how many 5 star QBs are going to sign with a losing program with bad lines and little chance to win over very lucrative offers from big time programs which have the personnel to guarantee not only success but also survival - and the cash to out bid us in the first place
