From one who works the radio salt mines, this is a Big Deal.
UCLA had long been the poor cousin on KLAC Sports 570 in name only, relegated 80% of the time to that weak signal cesspool “sister” station Patriot AM 1150 . On KABC UCLA will be prioritized as its main sportscast feature. In broadcast terms, we’ve moved from a garbage scow to our own yacht.
A good sign here of that:
“In addition to the full football and men's basketball schedules, 790 KABC will also air four UCLA women's basketball games in February and March, with Dave Marcus serving as the play-by-play voice. The station will also carry 28 episodes of the weekly "Bruin Insider Show", typically scheduled for Thursdays at 7 p.m. The "Bruin Insider Show", hosted by Nick Koop and featuring Cook and Murray, provides exclusive interviews and insight on UCLA Football and Men's Basketball, along with other UCLA sports. “

(HERE’S THE WHOLE RELEASE:)
LOS ANGELES – The UCLA Department of Athletics has signed a multi-year agreement with Cumulus Media, as Talk Radio 790 KABC will serve as the flagship station of the UCLA Bruins Audio Network. Broadcasts will begin on Aug. 30 with UCLA's home football game against Utah at the Rose Bowl.
KABC-AM 790 becomes the new official radio broadcast home for the UCLA football and men's basketball programs, serving all of Southern California with its powerful 6,600-watt signal. With the move to KABC-AM 790, the Bruins will be the primary sports team on the radio station, signaling a departure from sharing the airwaves with other major professional teams in the Los Angeles region.
"We are very excited to have found a dedicated home on 790 KABC to carry our play-by-play coverage on Southern California radio," said Martin Jarmond, The Alice and Nahum Lainer Family Director of Athletics. "When it came time to evaluate broadcast options that would best serve Bruin fans moving forward, we prioritized both widespread reach and a singular destination on the radio dial. 790 KABC is the right match to deliver both, and we're grateful for the partnership."
Josh Lewin will enter his 10th season as the primary play-by-play voice for the UCLA football and men's basketball teams. Lewin will continue to be joined in the broadcast booth by former UCLA quarterbacks Matt Stevens and Wayne Cook. While the men's basketball season stands nearly two months away, Lewin will be back in Pauley Pavilion presented by Wescom Financial this fall, calling the basketball games alongside former UCLA standout forward Tracy Murray.
"With KABC's powerhouse signal and UCLA's legacy teams, Southern Californians will get some of the best sports programming starting in the fall of 2025," said Luis Segura, program director at KABC-AM 790. "We are tremendously excited to partner with UCLA as the new official broadcast home of Bruins football and men's basketball, and we look forward to turning up the volume on Bruins coverage for our passionate 790 KABC listeners and Southern California sports fans."
In addition to the full football and men's basketball schedules, 790 KABC will also air four UCLA women's basketball games in February and March, with Dave Marcus serving as the play-by-play voice.
All broadcasts will be available on SiriusXM, TuneIn and the UCLA Bruins and KABC apps, offering fans coast-to-coast access.
