I think the star rating system being tied to NFL Drafting is stupid, and mendacious. Kids don't go from HS to the NFL. They go from HS to College to the NFL. College fans are the ones who frequent the recruiting site. It just shows how BS the "recruitnik" product is that they have to obscure their predictions by tying them to the NFL Draft. Which doesn't mean anything.
What does matter? On field performance. Why not align the stars this way?
5 stars: All-American level, nominated for awards
4 stars: All-Conference level/multi-year starter
3 stars: 1 year starter
2 stars: Gets to play (sub, special teams, etc)
1 star: Practice squad
Looking at the HS Class of 2020 QBs, I'd give them this assessment:
Great: two guys, Bryce Young (1) and CJ Stroud (3)
Good(enough): Carson Beck (19), Anthony Richardson (15), Ethan Garbers (8)
Ok: Haynes King (9), DJU (2), Tyler Van Dyke (16), Max Johnson (20)
Bad/bust:
Hudson Card 4,
Ja'Quinden Jackson 5,
Luke Doty 6,
Harrison Bailey 7,
Jay Butterfield 10,
Shane Illingsworth 11,
Evan Prater 12,
Chubba Purdy 13,
Malik Hornsby 14,
Jeff Sims 17,
Drew Pyne 18,
Parker McQuarrie 21 (Ucla kid)
Alaino 22,
Jacoby Criswell 23,
Logan Smothers 24,
Robby Ashfield 25,
Hunter Decker 26 (gambler),
Jack Miller 27,
Mason Garcia 28
whole lotta nothing
Guys that didn't make the 4 star cut...
Will Howard
Brady Cook
Jayden De Laura
Ben Gulbranson
Will Rogers
Cam Miller
Tommy Mellott
