4- and 3-stars are not determinant of football success. Only teams with a bevy of 5-stars win the big prizes. Examples: Alabama 5-star dominant, perennial winner. Texas 4-star dominant, perennial runner-up.
There are 30 - 35 5-stars a year and they go overwhelmingly to the programs that win every year, not the backbench tail dragger teams that Ucla produces.
Bruins yes, Ucla no.
In the portal era, the fake star system has even less predictive importance. More than ever, stars don't matter. If you want to win now, start in the portal.
HS players are the JV team, regardless of their "star" rank. They get limited freshman year action, make no impact as a group, and then many transfer or disappear as contributing factors. Some turn out well but aren't difference makers. 5-stars are difference makers.
Stars sell clicks to suckers.
