Race undoubtedly helped Dorrell get through the door. It doesn't offend me as much as some others. But on the way out he made some comments to the LA Times intimating that race was a factor in his firing. I always thought it was pretty shameless.
UCLA gave Dorrell a great job that no one else would have, let him stay for 5 years, and raised his profile such that he was able to land another head coaching job some years later. Which of course he again failed at. Not sure what else UCLA could have done for him.
