Yup

I knew a guy who went to UC Davis. He was so smart, that they immediately wanted him to take graduate classes. He said he didn't have a BS so they offered to give him one for free.

He thought if you can get a BS for free why not ask a better school, so he called UCLA and they gave him a BS for free so he would go to their PhD program at 17.

Then he thought if it's so easy to get into a PhD program, why not go to a better one so he called UCB. UCB immediately took him.

When I first met him, he always wore a USC hat but he said he graduated UCLA. When I asked him about the hat, he said it's a long story.

One of my professors for my MS said that she had a professor at UCLA help her go back and forth between UCLA and Cal Tech so they would bid for her graduate services. In the end, they paid for everything and gave her a stipend.

Colleges do this for their best students, so why not for their best money-generating athletes?
