Florida is a hard gig. Georgia was spending twice as much on recruiting. Maybe more. Bama too. By top tier SEC standards, Florida didn't spend much on recruiting.
As I recall it, the dagger for Mullen was when he was asked about recruiting after a tough loss, he responded "I'll talk about recruiting during recruiting season." The UF fans freaked out. Well, maybe he was expressing constraints the school was imposing.
Anyway, he got fired for doing wayyyyy better than Chip was doing at UCLA.
