Chip's shortcomings were well documented and provided ample cause to be skeptical at best of his hiring. Nonetheless, many wanted to believe it was a huge coup and that anyone who suggested otherwise was a troll. In the end, rather than looking for assurances to protect the program against Chip's known deficiencies, it instead gave him unchecked power to do (and perhaps more importantly), NOT do whatever the hell he wanted, and the results were depressingly predictable. If Chip had taken the Florida job he wouldn't have lasted 3 years and would have never sniffed another HC position again. Chip's departure from UCLA, while in many regards a parting slap in the face to the program that willingly endured far more of his BS than just about any other would have, is nonetheless the move a charlatan slinking off with his tail between his legs.
